Honoring Eugene Covington

Eugene Covington was born on April 13, 1928, in Rockvale, TN, Rutherford County, to John Nathan Covington and Nora Carlton Covington. The Covington Family was one of the original settlers in the county, coming to the area around the beginning of the 19th century. He has surviving two sisters, Cora Mae Covington Gunter and his twin, Pauline Covington Brown.
Bro. Gene attended Rockvale Elementary and Rockvale High School where he was president of his class for three years. Upon graduating from high school, he entered the US Navy and had specialized training in electronics. After discharge from the Navy, he worked at radio stations in Murfreesboro and Winchester as a radio engineer. He attended Middle Tennessee State College, getting his BS degree in 1958.


He worked for thirteen years at Arnold Engineering Development Center and spent twenty five years with IBM. He retired from IBM as a Senior Systems Engineer in 1991. Bro. Gene has been an outstanding member and lead Soundman for Fair Havens Independence Baptist Church for over twelve years. Bro. Gene is the most loyal friend anyone could ever ask for.
Bro. Gene married Reba Ann Messick of Murfreesboro, TN, on Dec 17, 1955. Reba passed away in 2007.
He has a son Richard (Rick) Nathan Covington. Rick is married to Mary Elizabeth (Betsy) Whitaker Covington. They have two children: Rebecca (Becca) Elizabeth Covington and Richard Nathan Covington, Jr. His son and family live in Columbus, GA.
